To provide an engaging and interactive training session which helps participants understand policy and practice relating to moving and handling. Provide an update around this area of work which reflects current/national best practice.

Learning Outcomes

By completing these sessions participants will be able to:

Understand essential moving and handling legislation in care/community settings and recent developments relating to this area of practice e.g. Legal decisions which impact on practice and guidance;
Be more aware of safe moving and handling practices back care awareness, safety of self, customer, carers and others;
Be able to complete specialist risk assessments where moving and handling applies objects and people and ensure details are disseminated to those involved in the procedure;
Learn advanced techniques to safely manage equipment/loads and personal moving and handling in domiciliary settings;
Be aware of the use of the range of equipment prescribed slide sheets, transfer boards, hoists etc;
Practice and develop skills and competencies relating to moving and handling which reflects national best-practice;
Identify situations which require more specialist advice and refer on as appropriate.
